Air Conditioning Repairs in Perth
If a split or ducted air conditioner has stopped cooling, is leaking, tripping, noisy or showing an error, we test the system to find the cause. We explain the result and price any repair before extra work begins.
- We find the cause
- We explain the repair
- You approve the cost
Switch it off if it smells burnt or keeps tripping a breaker or safety switch. Water near electrical parts and ice on the unit also need attention. If you see smoke or sparks, leave the area.
Know what's wrong before you approve anything.
A symptom can have several causes, so the first visit is for testing and a clear recommendation, not a guessed parts swap.
We test the system and explain what we find before anything is booked.
Additional testing, labour, parts, refrigerant or a return visit are explained first.
Include your suburb and photos where they can be taken safely.
We find the cause first
We do not guess the repair from the symptom.
Let us know when the problem started. Error codes and photos also help.
We check the parts that could be causing the problem.
We explain what we found. You decide whether to repair it.
The same problem can have more than one cause. Weak cooling might come from a blocked filter. It might also come from a fan, sensor, electrical part or refrigerant leak. We test the system before recommending a repair. This helps you avoid paying for parts the system does not need.
Is this the right service?
Use this service when a split system or ducted air conditioner has developed a problem. A split system has an indoor wall unit paired with an outdoor unit. A ducted system sends air through vents in several rooms. We repair both types in homes, rental properties and businesses across Perth.
Send us your suburb and a few details about the system. Tell us if the indoor or outdoor unit is hard to reach. We will confirm whether we cover your area and can take the job. You can also check our Perth service areas.
Call during our listed business hours or send an enquiry at any time. You can mark the job as urgent on the form. This helps us understand the problem, but it does not promise a same-day visit.
Your air conditioner may still be covered by the manufacturer or installer. Check the warranty before you book an independent repair, as outside work may affect that cover. Send us the brand and model. If you know its age and who installed it, send those details too. We can then discuss who is best placed to handle the fault.
When to switch the system off
Switch the air conditioner off if it smells burnt or keeps tripping a breaker or safety switch. Tell us about this when you book. An RCD is one type of safety switch in your switchboard. Do not keep resetting it.
Switch the system off if water is close to electrical parts or ice is building up on the unit. If you see smoke or sparks, leave the area and call emergency services.
Do not remove covers or open electrical sections. Do not try to add refrigerant. Refrigerant is the fluid that carries heat between the indoor and outdoor units.
If there is no immediate danger, check that the controller is set to the right mode and temperature. Write down any error code. You can also check a filter that the manufacturer says the homeowner may remove.
Choose Air Conditioning Servicing & Cleaning if the system is working and you want routine care. Choose repairs if it is leaking, tripping the power, showing an error or not cooling.
Problems we can help with
- Runs but does not cool or heat properly
- Indoor or outdoor unit will not start
- Water drips from the indoor unit or drain
- Rattles, buzzes, grinds or makes an unusual fan noise
- Operates intermittently or keeps turning off
- Trips a breaker or RCD when it runs
- Shows an error code or flashing-light pattern
- Has a ducted whole-system, zone or airflow fault
- Produces a musty, damp or drain odour
- Smells burnt, electrical, smoky or like hot plastic
How we find the fault
We first ask what the system has been doing. We also ask when the problem started and whether it comes and goes. The model number and any error code help us choose the first checks.
Next, we test the parts that could be causing the problem. We measure how much air comes from the unit and whether its temperature changes as it should. If the airflow is low, we check the filter and fan. We also check the metal coil inside the unit that cools the air. If the unit leaks water, we check where the water collects and how it drains away. We test the electrical parts when the fault points that way.
Some cooling faults need tests on the refrigerant circuit. This is the sealed part of the air conditioner that moves heat between the indoor and outdoor units.
Once we finish the checks, we tell you what we have confirmed. If more testing is needed, we explain why. If the repair should go through a warranty, we tell you. We only raise replacement when it is a realistic option for your system.
We do not add refrigerant simply because the air feels warm. Refrigerant should not run out during normal use. If it may have leaked, we need to find out why before adding more.
What can happen on the first visit
The first visit starts with finding the fault. What happens next depends on what we find.
- If the fault is simple and we have what is needed, we may be able to fix it on the same visit.
- If a part needs to be ordered, we explain the repair price and the cost of coming back before you approve it.
- If the fault only happens sometimes, we may need more time to test it or another visit when the problem returns.
- If the repair should go through the manufacturer or installer, we tell you why.
- If parts are no longer available or the repair is poor value, we help you compare repair and replacement.
Before we go past the checks you agreed to, we explain the repair and its cost. You decide whether you want us to continue. If the job needs a part or another visit, we tell you before you approve the work.
After a repair, we run the air conditioner again. We check that the original problem has been dealt with before we finish.
What happens on the first visit?
We attend and spend time fault-finding to identify the cause. We'll confirm the cost with you before we go ahead.
We usually cannot give you the total repair price until we know what has failed. Additional testing, labour, parts, refrigerant and return visits are not included unless we say they are.
Before we go beyond the included diagnostic time, we explain the next step and its cost. You can stop after the diagnosis and only approve the work that makes sense to you.
Any repair we carry out is covered by our own workmanship warranty. If the same fault comes back because of work we did, we return and fix it at no extra charge. See our warranty FAQ for the full terms.
Repair or replace?
Repair often makes sense when one part has failed and a replacement part is available. The rest of the system also needs to be in reasonable condition.
An older system that breaks down often may cost more to keep repairing. Replacement may also make more sense if parts are no longer sold. The same can be true if the system is the wrong size for the home or was installed poorly.
We first find the actual fault. Then we can compare the repair cost with how much useful life the system is likely to have left. Our repair-or-replace guide shows you what to compare. If replacement looks better, see how our air conditioning replacement service works.
What to send with your enquiry
- Your suburb and whether the property is a home, rental or business
- Whether you have a split system or ducted system
- How many units or ducted zones have a problem. A zone is a group of rooms you can turn on or off together.
- The brand, model and approximate age
- Whether it may still be under warranty
- What goes wrong and when it happens
- Any error code, water leak, tripped switch, smell or unusual noise
- Any servicing, repairs or checks already tried
- Photos of the model label, controller and units
- Anything that makes access harder, such as a high balcony or locked roof space
- Any tenant, strata or owner approval we need to know about
Keep the indoor and outdoor units clear enough for us to reach them. Do not open the equipment. If the property is rented or managed, tell us who can approve work beyond the first visit.
What happens after you enquire
We read the details and check that your suburb is in our service area. We then tell you whether we can take the job. We also confirm the price of the first visit and the next available booking.
When we arrive, we start with the problem you reported. We test the system and find the cause. Then we explain what we found in plain language.
If the repair is simple and you approve it, we may be able to finish it during the same visit. If it needs a part, more testing or a return visit, we explain that next step and its cost first. We will also tell you if a warranty claim or replacement looks like the better path.
You do not need to work out which part has failed. Tell us what the air conditioner is doing. The model number and a few photos are enough to get started.
