How long does an EV charger installation take?
Quick answer
A straightforward home EV charger installation, where the switchboard already has capacity, usually takes half a day. If the switchboard needs upgrading to support the dedicated circuit, expect a full day or a separate follow-up visit, since the board work is typically assessed and quoted first.
What determines the timeline
- Switchboard capacity: the main variable. If there’s spare capacity, the dedicated circuit and charger go in the same visit.
- Cable run length: a charger near the switchboard is quicker than one at the far end of a garage or carport.
- Charger type: most home units install similarly, but some models have extra commissioning steps.
