How much does EV charger installation cost in Perth?
EV charger installation cost in Perth depends on the charger, cable route, switchboard capacity and controls. Compare the charger purchase, installation work and site extras separately. A customer-supplied charger still needs an electrical assessment. This guide helps you choose the equipment and compare quotes before booking ourPerth EV charger installation service.
How much should you budget for installation?
As an external reference, Tesla Australiapublishes $750–$1,500 for a straightforward Wall Connector installation. Its process treats charger purchase separately, and its cost section does not specify GST. This is an Australia-wide installation benchmark checked on 7 September 2026, not a Neighbourhood fixed price or a total installed package for every Perth property.
Ask for a site-specific written quote. A short, accessible route from a suitable switchboard to a garage wall differs from a rear carport needing a trench, mounting post or electrical alterations. The final cost can exceed a basic installation allowance when those items are required.
Separate the three parts of the price
- Charger hardware: exact model, cable, mounting components, sensors and any required accessories.
- Installation: agreed cable route, dedicated circuit, protective devices, mounting, testing, configured output and handover.
- Site extras: switchboard changes, trenching, reinstatement, communications, load monitoring, shared-building metering or network work.
Confirm GST, access assumptions and exclusions on the complete quote. Ask whether ongoing billing or software fees apply to your selected controls. Ourswitchboard upgrade cost guideexplains that separate work; an EV charger does not automatically require a full board replacement.
Tesla, Zappi or BYD: what should you check before buying?
Start with the exact vehicle model and year, its maximum AC charging rate, where it parks and the functions you need. A charger brand alone does not establish compatibility or site suitability. We assess customer-supplied equipment before confirming installation.
Tesla charger installation in Perth
For a Tesla Wall Connector, confirm the vehicle, supply, cable reach and control requirements. Tesla’s Australian guidance lists up to 11kW output, with 7.4kW single-phase and 11kW three-phase examples. Ask for the proposed output and any additional monitoring hardware to be recorded in the quote. See Tesla’s Australian Wall Connector guidance.
Planning a Zappi installation in Perth
A myenergi Zappi is an option to assess when you want charging to respond to surplus solar. It can also operate without solar panels. Match the single- or three-phase model to the supply and include the necessary grid-monitoring sensors and communications in the installation scope.myenergi’s Australian Zappi guidanceand its grid sensor guidanceexplain those dependencies. Tell us about existing solar, batteries and monitoring before purchasing.
BYD charger installation in Perth
BYD Australia lists 7kW single-phase and 11kW three-phase AC chargers. The vehicle’s accepted AC rate still limits charging speed. Its current retail charger supports RFID access, but BYD does not list mobile-app control, Bluetooth or OCPP networking for that version. If automatic solar diversion or managed workplace billing matters, check those requirements against the exact product before ordering.
7kW EV charging: single phase versus three phase
Around 7–7.4kW on single phase
This is a common option to assess for overnight home charging. Daily driving and the time the car stays parked matter more than choosing the largest number on the box. The electrician still needs to check available supply capacity alongside air conditioning, cooking and other loads.
11kW or 22kW on three phase
These charging rates normally require three-phase supply and compatible equipment. A vehicle limited to 11kW AC will not charge at 22kW just because the wall charger is rated for it. Compare the extra installation or supply work with the usable charging rate before choosing. See myenergi’s charging-power options.
A three-phase upgrade is not automatically necessary for an EV. The connection and maximum demand must be assessed against Western Power’s EV installation guidance. Our charging power comparisonexplains the practical supply and vehicle limits.
Solar charging and load management are different functions
- Scheduled charging starts or stops at selected times. A daytime schedule does not itself track surplus solar.
- Dynamic load management adjusts charging when other property loads change. It helps an assessed installation stay within its limits; it does not create extra supply capacity.
- Surplus-solar charging responds to measured solar export using compatible controls and monitoring. The car needs to be connected when suitable solar energy is available.
Specify the outcome you want and ask which sensors, meters and configuration are included.Tesla’s dynamic power managementrequires additional approved metering. ItsCharge on Solar featurehas compatible vehicle, Powerwall, solar and software requirements; a Wall Connector alone does not establish that setup.
Apartments and workplaces need an agreed charging plan
For shared parking, identify the bay, electrical-room access, approval process and who pays for installation and electricity. Ask how future chargers, monitoring and ongoing billing charges fit the proposal. Send the building’s existing charging policy or assessment if available.
See strata charging preparation in Scarboroughand planning work for Malaga business premisesfor local examples of information that helps define the scope.
Customer-supplied chargers: what to send for a quote
- Your suburb, vehicle model and year, usual parking position and charging routine.
- The exact charger model, product label, manual and included mounting components or sensors.
- Photos showing the proposed charger location, route and visible switchboard face, taken safely without removing covers.
- Existing solar or battery details and any planned new air conditioning or second EV.
- Access constraints, strata correspondence, preferred controls and whether the charger is already purchased.
We’ll confirm equipment suitability, the required assessment and a written scope before booking. For the work itself, see what EV installation can include, dedicated charger circuitsand installation timing.
